This may be the BEST pre-workout smoothie we’ve ever come up with. In addition to being an excellent source of beta-carotene, vitamin C,and fiber, sweet potatoesare made up of complex carbs, which provide the perfect source of energy. Pea protein is gaining prominence among athletes for its digestibility and for being a good source of arginine, a muscle-building amino acid. Add in some almond milkfor calcium and some pecans for a hit of good fat, and you’ve got an all natural energy drink designed to give you an A+ workout. Pro Tip: If your blender has trouble with sweet potatoes, lightly steam them to soften them up before blending.

 4 oz sweet potato
 1 orangepeeled
 ½ tsp allspice and cinnamon
 1 tbsp pea protein
 2 tbsp pecans
 1 cup almond milk
 1 cup ice

Put all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until completely smooth. If it’s a little thick, add a drop of chilled water then blitz again.

Pour the smoothie into a tall glass to serve.
